Deaf Dog Rescued From Hurricane Harvey in Houston Finds Forever Home With Perfect Family in Canada

A sick deaf dog rescued from a Houston gas station during Hurricane Harvey has found a forever home after a long journey up north, the Stouffville Sun-Tribune reports.

Scruffy was found at a gas station during the storm suffering from a severe ear infection that left him deaf. The dog rescue group Redemption Paws rescued Scruffy along with dozens of other dogs and delivered him to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

It didn’t take long for Scruffy to find the perfect family.

“I’ve been saying for years that I wanted a dog that was scruffy,” Ashley Pieterse, Scruffy’s new owner, told the Sun-Tribune. “Then he showed up and his name was Scruffy … He is perfect.”

The family drove to pick up Scruffy just before the holidays from his foster home.

“We want you, you’re ours,” Pieterse told Scruffy as the two-year-old pup licked his face.

Marina Bourguignon, who had fostered Scruffy for over a month, said she was happy for the pup even though she had grown attached.

“I’m happy,” she said. “It is hard to let them go, because we do get attached to them, but it is time for him to have his forever home. I love him, but I can’t keep him.”
