Hero Officer Pulls Unconscious 300-Pound From Car Moments Before It’s Hit By a Train

An Arizona state trooper saved a drunk driver’s life just seconds before his car was hit by a train, AZ Central reports.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, trooper Henry Roanhorse was headed home when he saw a car stuck on the train tracks.

Roanhorse crawled into the car to help free the man inside.

“Roanhorse was familiar with the area and knew that the tracks carried a large volume of rail traffic, often traveling at high speeds,” the release from the Department of Public Safety said.

Police say the 300-pound driver initially tried to fight Roanhorse but the trooper was able to drag him out of the car by his feet just moments before the car was slammed by a train. The train threw the car 150 feet.

The driver, 56-year-old Sampson Whitegoat was later charged for DUI and other offenses.

“Thank you officer, you just saved my life,” Whitegoat told Roanhorse after the crash, KTAR reports.
