Man Declared Dead by Three Doctors ‘Starts Snoring’ on Autopsy Table

A prison inmate who was declared dead at a Spanish jail was discovered to be alive just hours before his autopsy, The Independent reports.

Gonzalo Montoya Jimenez, 29, was declared dead by three doctors at a jail in Asturias and was put in a body bag to be transported to a morgue after he collapsed in his cell.

Jimenez’s family told Spanish media he “had autopsy markings on him, ready to be opened up”.

The Forensic Anatomic Institute of Oviedo was ready to perform the autopsy when they reportedly heard Jimenez snoring on the autopsy table.

He was transferred to the Central University Hospital where he is in the intensive care unit.

Experts believe it may be a case of catalepsy, a condition that causes loss of responsiveness to pain and a slowing of bodily functions.

Doctors were concerned Jimenez suffered brain damage but are optimistic after he woke up asking about his wife.

Jimenez’s family said he suffers from epilepsy and believe he was not taking medication properly while in prison.
