Shark Charities Get Huge Spike in Donations in Trump’s Name After Report That He Hates Sharks

Marine life conservation groups have seen an influx of donations after reports that President Donald Trump hates sharks, MarketWatch reports.

According to a report last week, Trump is “obsessed” and “terrified” of sharks.

“I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to any charity that helps sharks. I hope all the sharks die,” Trump reportedly said.

Trump has previously tweeted about his dislike of sharks as well.

According to MarketWatch, officials at the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society have noticed a big spike in donations from first-time donors in Trump’s name.

“We have been receiving donations in Trump’s name since the story was published,” Cynthia Wilgren, the head of Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, told MarketWatch. “It can certainly be a challenge to raise money for a species that most people fear.”

Captain Paul Watson, the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, said, “Anything that focuses attention on the plight of sharks worldwide is valuable, so I guess in that way the president did good service.”

“It’s actually more dangerous to play golf than it is to go swimming in the ocean with sharks,” Watson added. “Quite a few more die from lightning strikes and bee stings while playing golf than from sharks.”
